The Major League Baseball season continues this evening with a game between the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels. The game is scheduled for a 9:38 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv and FOX Sports 1. Currently the MLB odds for the game have the Royals favored to pick up the victory in this one at home.

I'm going to be making a play in the over for this game. It might be a contrarian play, but that's OK by me. 

I like Michael Wacha and Reid Detmers. At times this season, they have shown solid pitching. Tonight, I do not expect that to be the case. Wacha has a road ERA north of 5.5 and the Royals have lost all four of his starts away from home this year. He's surrendered 14 earned runs in that time and has not gotten the run support in those starts to even sniff a victory.

Likewise, Detmers has been so-so at home this year. He's 1-2 with a 5.00 ERA in his three starts at home this season. He looked sharp in his first one against the Red Sox, yielding only one earned in a 2-1 victory. But his last two starts have seen Detmers give up nine combined earned runs against Baltimore and Minnesota.

Kansas City ranks 10th in the league in runs, they're scoring better than 4.5 per contest on average. The Angels aren't to that number, but score better than four runs per game on average as well. I think these teams can combine to score at least nine runs tonight.
