Convince me the Hawks can win game 7.....

by Johnny Detroit on 05/03/2008 11:43 AM

The line right now for game seven is the Celtics minus a whopping 14.5. So here is the task for today:

I do not want any "no way" or "will be a blowout" talk. Say you were hired to present a case on why the Hawks have a shot to win game 7 outright. So essentially a debate on the two sides and the coin flip gave you the 14.5 point underdog Atlanta Hawks. The best case will get a $100 from me via Pay Pal. $200 if the Hawks win!

While in NY I tossed in a small prop wager based on how well I thought the Hawks were playing at home and assuming a game 7 was more than likley (ticket below).

So from now until the game tips, check the stats and numbers and sell me on why I might hit this 16-1 shot. If I pick your reasoning as the best, I will shoot ya $100 via Pay Pal. If by chance the Hawks win, you will get an additional $100 once I cash my ticket.

Wager details for ticket number 20162798-1:

Wager Type: Money Line
Wager Status: Pending
Risk / To Win Amount: 200.00 / 3,200.00 (USD)    Accepted 4/30/2008 6:41 PM - EST

Atlanta Hawks (Series)  4/30/2008 8:35:01 PM - (EST)

well , cant convince you but there sure is alot of pressure on Boston, dont you think? Im taking the points!

I agree about the pressure on Celtics.

The Celtics are 9-0 ATS in their last 9 home games, winning those games by an average of over 19 points.  They were favorites of more than 9 points in 7 of those games and have covered each of the first 3 home games of this series with similar numbers.

If you saw the Jazz game last night, this will be a repeat...

Glad you followed the rules Matty :)

Don't want to hear any of the Celtics mumbo jumbo!

Funny thing 007, is I almost put that in my post.

I was refuting the "pressure" theory and don't care to win the money :)

Matty, that might be tru but they werent under any pressure in those games. They will come out tight  and close tothe vest in game 7

MATCH-UPS / FT's:

ATL found the weakness of BOS by going small, shooting 47 FT's, while only making a single 3-point shot Friday Night....

Game 6 was much like G3/4 for Atl, Bos makes deliberate effort to get Pierce off...he was 4-4 in 1st 4 min, Bos is crusing to probably win, 32-20 after 1...

BUT - then ATL starts subbing - as Bos does, and lead vanishes....

WHEN BOS subs, they MUST go big...

Cassell, then up front Powe, Big Baby, Brown, Posey, ect...WHEN ATL COUNTERS with smaller quicker unit....Chidress for Williams, then, after Pachulia in for at Smith, THEN Law for Pachulia...

ATL GOING SMALL is key factor for ATL ability to exploit Bostons lack of 2/3 defenders and AGE dilemma - Boston has very significant mis-match vulnerabilies here, and they just cannot keep Rondo on the floor the entire game....then when ATL has Bibby, Johnson, Law or Childress in game, Boston just can't effectively keep them in front....KG, PP, Ray, cannot play every minute, and the Hawks are getting to the line an inordinate number of times with the small line-up adjustments.

Boston may HAVE to play Eddie House along with Rondo to counter the 3-guard Hawks line-up....

BUT ATL going small - earlier and more often gives them a legit shot at pulling out a win in Boston.  THAT is how ATL can win Gm 7.

So far, you are leading for the $100!

KG will not let it happen Pierce will not let it happen Allen will not let it happen... RONDO will not let it happend...  Hawks idk they have been playing amazing while celtics havent played to their potential if the Celtics blow it.. that will be bigger then PAts losing superbowl .....

Mr Hawk, the reasons you will win game 7 are as followed:Since 1996you are 26-21 ats vs Boston. You have played better defence the last three years againts Mr Boston with as 6 of the last 8 have fell under the total. You own a winning 5-3 mark vs good defensive teams the 2nd half of the season at 5-4.You also have a better guard in Mike Biibby who has more experience than Rondo and can score more than Cassell.. Your free throw shooting % is better along with your rebounding.  Last but not least you are 5-0 ats when your opponent allows 100 or more pts theie previous game. In short Mr Hawk your history shows you will be right there with My Boston defensively and with the pivital pt guard play that does fav you , you will create more open looks for Mr Johnson and Mr Smith. History also shows that Mr Garnett does not fare well n close game in the fourth so that will be on our side as well........See you in round 2.................

Atlanata has all the confidence in the world going into this game 7.  In the beginning of this series i would have said  Atlanta would be no match for Boston just like everyone else.  Even though Atlanta went down 2-0 they contained their composure and won the next 2 despite getting blown out in Boston.  Boston then blows them out by 25 in game 5 and what they do come back in game 6 to win again making it a 1 game series.  Besides Boston's bench has been getting abused by Atlantas bench.  Atlanta will not give especially knowing that they pushed this game to 7.  Smith and Johnson will look to drive the paint all night.  See the big difference is Boston cant reall play with their stars on the bench and Atlanta can take their starters out and still be in the game.  If Williams doesnt play look for Childeress or Law to crack the starting rotation.  It will be a close  game but look for Atlanta to take over the 4th quarter as they been doing throughtout this 7 game series.  I dont see why they wouldnt have the confidence after all they are playing the best team in the NBA.  And pushed this series all the way.  Their future is really bright.

Atlanta can win because nobody expects them too.  Atlanta players will be scared shitless but it's all about getting this game to the final 2:00 minutes tied or ahead.  If Atlanta can't weather the storm in the first quarter, they will lose by 25 and the score will end up 100-75.  It's all about the first quarter.  That is Atlanta's only chance.  Don't forget about a possible injury to Garnett or Pierce.  That might give them a better chance to win as well.    Atlanta hasn't even come close to winning in Boston yet.  Boston played with drama in Atlanta and lost both games.  It's like they wanted a game 7.  More money for the team I guess.  LOL  Anyways, this game reminds me of the Suns and Lakers series when the Suns were down 0-2 to the Lakers and the Suns came roaring back and won 3-2.  Same scenario here.  Boston just hasn't had any real blood in a while.  They won't lose today.

How big of an upset would this be? Not sure how many game 7's had spreads at 14.5.

Deciding games tend to be blowouts (either way) because once the game result has been decided, the emotion for the losing team causes them to not fight at the end.

well, I can tell you the Hawks will win game 7 because I will put money on the Celtics! If I do that then you, Johnny can take the hawks on the ml and have a great payout!   see how easy that is!

This is a small addition to my story that might help me win the $100. The big three for Boston have played well toghether all year, but they have not been in a game this big in their NBA carrers. Like I said earlier, Garnett does not far well in the fourth under pressure. He does not post up mutch witch will fav Atl. Boston will rely on outside threes and fast break pts. This may help us in the game if Boston goes cold. Bibby can get Horforod and Smith some paint pts  Perkins and Pierce (who will be guarding Smith) could get into foul trouble by the fourth. Johnson has  avg more pts than Allen so that will fav Atl as well. No one expected Atl to even be here in this spot and that is the scariest part for Boston.  Bench pts willl be key here as well as ZAZA and Childress both had good games last game outscoring Bostons bench. Boston will have to play their starters MORE this game 7 as witch will also fav Atl as they will be fresh in the fourth. Nobody expected this series to go to 7 so atl is going to go into this game as this is there NBA champ game witch is going to be scary for the Celts .............

This is sembach007, It is time for the greatest upset in NBA history.  It is very difficult to defeat the same team at home within a 2 week period.  Take the points and don't be surprised of an ATL victory. I have a great feeling about this one. Remember Shaq,Koby, the mailman and Payton? didn't they lose to an underdog Detroit? I beet a co-worker $500 on Atl to win straight up. You heard it from 007.

Hawks failed to respond to Game Seven urgency - went to bench far too late and not often enough....

I STILL haven't seen Acie Law (late 3rd), for Atl - nor Salim Stoudamire till mid-3rd.... those brief, yet significant stretches with Law, Johnson and Bibby was deadly for Boston's efforts to rest Rondo and esp. caused more req'd min and tough cross-switch for Ray Allen, who excels when he can guard his counter-point, 2-spot.

Hard to figure how Hawks decisively deviated from the SUCCESSFUL Gm 3/4/6 strategy - which produced avg 34 avg. FT per game...even in Gm 1/2 LOSSES, Atl shot avg 34 FT's per game (28 + 40)...they have THIRTEEN att, mid-4th Qtr...Atl is not getting to the rim, making the xtra pass, and when Johnson / Williams /Smith are doubled, they're really jammed up - (esp. Johnson), NOT passing out of it!

KG and Perkins have posted up ATL, and even though Horford has 11 Boards, ATL refuses to help and pick up low post curl move into lane, as they had been doing in Gm 3/4/6...shows me that they are simply intimidated, and not prepared to immerse themselves in the attempt to WIN THIS GAME....they do not BELIEVE they can win, IMO....and never really did today.

I'm convinced that Hawks have essentially 'Won' by getting to game Seven - in thier mind, anyway.

Atlanta never had a chance.  They couldn't hit a shot under the pressure of the Boston home crowd.  Way to many nerves and not enough veterans on Atlanta to get them over the hump.  Bibby was a big dissapointment.  Hawks will improve.

WOW .....That shit was unreal....Johnson had a great game like I said, but nobody else came to play......
