Kansas City won in extra innings last night, a game which saw the bullpens both teams use plenty of guys (nine combined guys came out of the pen). Scoring was non-existent from the sixth to ninth innings, but KC was able to scratch one across in extras for the win.
Tonight, Houston pitcher Spencer Arrighetti is making his Major League debut. That can be a tough task on the road and the Royals have been rock solid there at home winning six of eight games to date. Arrighetti wasn't spectacular in the minors, but sported almost a strikeout per inning in Triple A last year.
He might struggle or he might be able to put together a strong showing tonight. I like the fact the Royals will have some uncertainty against him.
I expect Houston to get some things going tonight offensively. They haven't been great with runners in scoring position, leaving nearly four base runners stranded per game so far on average. But tonight they take on Seth Lugo (1-0, 0.71 ERA), who has looked strong in his two starts. Current Astros do have 11 hits in 26 plate appearances (small sample size) against him.
