I don't think anyone in their right mind would describe the Los Angeles Dodgers as being "mediocre" ...
Their an elite team who isn't producing elite results... and in a city like LA (or NY, or Boston, etc) that's not acceptable... I think that's the point people are making... gotta win the big one to be considered successful
Kyle - I know exactly what you are saying and what the others are saying. Back in the 80's when the Lakers went back and forth winning titles with Boston, I would think the same thing. A year without a championship would not be deemed a successful year. I would get all worked up and literally have fights with my roommate who came out here from Boston.
I enjoy life more now that I realize the Earth doesn't stop revolving when your team loses. And I realize those guys jumping around on the field and spraying champagne, don't know you and don't give a rat's asz about you. I watch the games and root for my team, but their losing a game is not going to ruin my day. Because there will always be more games. Some people attach their self worth to a sports team. That is why you see so many of the caps of winning teams being worn - and few caps by losing teams - to some wearing the cap of a winning team means "I'm a winner!" I've been a Dodger fan since my dad took me to my first game in the 1960's. I'll always be a huge Dodger fan. But their winning or losing does not define me or the level of success in my life. I prefer to celebrate the victories I'VE achieved and mourn MY losses - not achievements and losses by strangers.
